José Ramírez announced he will compete in his second home run derby at the All-Star Game next week.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — José Ramírez was limited by a hand injury in 2022 when he competed in his first All-Star Game home run derby. That will not be the case the second time around.
American League's Jose Ramirez, of the Cleveland Guardians, bats during the MLB All-Star baseball Home Run Derby, Monday, July 18, 2022, in Los Angeles. He joins Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson, Atlanta’s Marcel Ozuna, Philadelphia’s Alec Bohm, Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. and Pete Alonso of the Mets in the derby field.
Prior to Ramirez’s early exit in 2022, Cleveland sluggers had limited success in a variety of derby formats. Albert Belle and Jim Thome reached the finals, but lost to Frank Thomas and Ken Griffey Jr.
