Astros injury report: José Urquidy throws, Michael Brantley swings and Yordan Alvarez jogs
Houston Astros Michael Brantley has been taking batting practice, a good step in return from shoulder problems.Righthander José Urquidy threw a 17-pitch bullpen session Wednesday morning and will accompany the Astros on their upcoming road trip to continue his throwing program, he said.
Urquidy said he threw fastballs and changeups in his session and was pleased with his velocity. Urquidy, on the injured list since May 1 with shoulder discomfort, deemed traveling with the team “good news.” He said he expects to throw two more bullpens before facing hitters in a live batting practice.
Outfielder Michael Brantley, working toward a return from right shoulder surgery, took batting practice on the field Wednesday and will also travel with the team. Manager Dusty Baker said he did not know if Brantley might be able to start a minor-league rehab assignment at some point during the Astros’ three-city, 10-game trip, which includes off-days before and after the first series in Los Angeles.
“It’s how he is day-to-day,” Baker said. “Just want to make sure hopefully we get him back and keep him back. You certainly don’t want another setback because we rushed him.” Yordan Alvarez, on the IL since June 9 with an oblique strain, jogged on the field Wednesday. Baker did not offer a timeline for Alvarez to potentially start increasing activity but said Alvarez is “doing better.”
