ICYMI: Josh Bell came up BIG for the Guardians in his return to Washington on Friday night.
“This feels great,” said Bell. “It was a game I needed. The last few games I’ve felt I’ve been trending in the right direction.
For the 6-4, 260-pound Bell it was his first homer as a Guardian after he signed a two-year $33 million deal in December. Truth be told it probably eased some anxiety as well. Bell entered the game hitting .109 with four RBI. “Even if I’m on a hot streak, if I’m not hitting the ball well in batting practice, I know it’s coming to a close. I just try to honor my work day. If the results aren’t there in the game, I still have to continue to work to try and get better.”
“He battled like crazy,” said manager Terry Francona. “I thought his stuff was good. He didn’t have his curveball tonight and we didn’t finish some plays behind him that didn’t help.Trevor Stephan , James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase pitched the final three scoreless innings. Clase handled the ninth, earning his fourth save in five chances.
Ramirez went to throw to second, but Rosario was late covering the bag because second baseman Gimenez was playing in the hole against the left-handed hitting Abrams.
