On Nov. 17, 2023, officers responded to a ShotSpotter call at a Brentwood park located at the 500 block of 28th Street West. Police located 16-year-old Keon Walthall unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After a review of scene evidence and interviews conducted by investigators, it was determined that the victim was killed during an attempted armed robbery of an unknown person, the release states.

JSO identified 18-year-old Za'Qwon Walthall as the person who coordinated the robbery, resulting in the shooting death of the victim.
