A Georgia judge ordered a juror to write a 30-page essay after she failed to appear for jury duty in rapper Young Thug's trial.
Chief Judge Ural Glanville of the Superior Court of Fulton County ordered the juror to finish her essay by Feb. 13 over her failure to return to the jury selection process on Monday. The juror was allegedly in the Dominican Republic at the time and arrived back in Georgia on Wednesday evening, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She is one of 600 potential jurors in the trial of Young Thug, whose legal name is Jeffery Lamar Williams.
Williams and 13 other co-defendants are facing charges for violating the state's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act after conspiring"to associate together and with others for the common purposes of illegally obtaining money and property through a pattern of racketeering activity and conducting and participating in the enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity.
Originally, 28 total people were indicted alongside Williams in May, but six are being tried separately, and eight have already pleaded guilty. The sheer number of defendants has meant that the trial is expected to last anywhere between six and nine months, according to Glanville, and 122 of the jurors have asked that Glanville grant them a hardship exemption from being chosen on the jury, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
