In his written decision Wednesday, however, U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein found that “[t]he evidence overwhelmingly suggests that the matter was a purely a personal item of the President — a cover-up of an embarrassing event.” Hellerstein also dismissed Trump’s concerns that the indictment was the work of a “politically motivated” district attorney, Alvin Bragg, writing “Trump fails to show, however, that the grand jury lacked a rational basis for the indictment.”
