Could Microsoft purchase Bungie, bringing the developer back into its fold?

At this point, however, as much as Bungie is enjoying its independence, it feels like with the money Microsoft is throwing around, there’s always a number. We have no idea what an asking price would be for Bungie, a private company that doesn’t disclose its financials, but if Microsoft is willing to pay $70 billion for Activision Blizzard, a potential Bungie deal would be a fraction of that.Reuniting with a proven developer who hasn’t missed with its last two mega-franchises.

The ability to potentially take Destiny as a franchise and make it a core Game Pass offering with all future content and seasons launching there.Access to new IPs that Bungie is currently working on as we speak, and getting ready to announce, and those could launch as Xbox exclusive with less controversy.getting Bungie to work on Halo again, but given the success of Infinite under 343, I doubt this would be necessary.

But on Bungie’s side, I can see how there might be a lot of resistance to this. Bungie seems very, very happy to be independent at the moment, and it’s hard to see that changing barring some sort of truly massive offering that is just too good to pass up . Destiny has thrived since Bungie got out from under Activision, and previously, they celebrated their Halo-less independence from Microsoft when they left.

The sense I get from Bungie is that they are not looking to sell, and yet this industry is full of so many wild twists and turns, after today’s deal, it feels like we cannot rule anything out, and that there’s nothing a few billion dollars can’t make happen. Thinking about the size of Bethesda and the $7.
