Astros' Justin Verlander gives vintage performance in his return

His offense never showed up at all.
The Astros lineup rewarded its ace with two hits and fell 2-0 at Angel Stadium. Houston hit eight home runs in the series’ first two games but, on Saturday, fell silent against starter Noah Syndergaard and a team of three relievers for its first loss of the season. No Astros runner reached third base. Just one reached second.
The Astros could not lift Syndergaard’s sinking, two-seam fastball and mounted nothing resembling a rally against him. Houston grounded out 11 times against Syndergaard and averaged just an 82.7 mph exit velocity on the 16 balls it put in play. Five baserunners reached against him.Houston ran out a reserve-laden lineup. Alex Bregman received a pre-planned off day and Yuli Gurriel remained on paternity leave.
