Pickets launched at 6 a.m. at hospitals around Southern California. At Woodland Hills Medical Center, more than 400 picketers gathered at the complex’s entrances. carrying signs that said “Kaiser: Put Patients First.” Lissett Marrufo, an LVN at Kaiser’s South Bay Medical Center, said she joined the strike, seeking better working conditions and pay.
“They pay lots of money for their health care, and they’re not getting the service they deserve,” she said. “They’re not getting the care that they need, and they’re having to wait long periods of time.” “In Southern California, where our wages significantly exceed market levels, we are offering wage increases of 10% over four years plus lump sum bonuses of 4%, to keep our employees well compensated,” according to Kaiser.
