The singer releases her latest album “Red Moon in Venus” today—after working on the project for over four years.
Colombian American singer Kali Uchis has long made fluid, dual-language singing a feature of her music; two lines of a verse can be in English, and then suddenly a poetic phrase in Spanish is sprinkled in. For her latest projects, however, Uchis has decided to try a different approach, releasing one English-language album that will be followed later this year by another in Spanish., out today, is the former, which has been in creative development since 2018.
“Deserve Me,” on the other hand, is a breakup track more focused on knowing your self-worth. It’s one of the first songs Uchis recorded for, back before the pandemic began. “I’ll just make music, make music—not limit myself,” she explains of her process. “I just write about what’s going on in my life. And then I will collect all of those demos and then be like, Okay, I feel like this song is worth pursuing more. [‘Deserve Me’] had such a special place for me.
