Kava Sol is the first kava bar in Cleveland’s eastern suburbs.
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – The alcohol-free movement has a new buzz – kava and kratom.
Where they originate, the botanicals are used for indigenous ceremonial purposes. In the United States, they’re used to create mood-enhancing beverages without alcohol. Kava, for example, is reported to reduce anxiety and promote social behavior. Meanwhile, Kronk says, kratom “gives you a focused energy feeling without caffeine.”
The decision is very personal for Kronk. Her mom passed away last July, by suicide, after years of battling mental illness and alcoholism. She had been sober for more than 20 years but picked up alcohol again to alleviate anxiety.
