King Charles III campaigned as prince on issues from climate change to architecture. As monarch, his aides say, he aims to be more of a convener than a campaigner.

However, Prince Charles’s focus on concerns about the environment, which dated back to the 1960s, was seen in many quarters as far-sighted.He launched his own brand of organic food in 1990, originally farmed at the Duchy Home Farm at Prince Charles’s country estate, Highgrove House.Architecture was another passion. Prince Charles helped design a new town called Poundbury to showcase his views on town planning, inspired in part by the planned community of Seaside, Fla.

The tragedy forced the royal family to modernize and rethink its relations with the British public. That gave space for Prince Charles to rebuild his private life. In 2005, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were married in a civil ceremony. Their union enabled him to enjoy and make peace with his role within the royal firm.In recent years, as Prince Charles, he gradually took on some of his mother’s duties, including representing the monarch at the meeting of Commonwealth leaders.
