The United Kingdom's new monarch, King Charles III, vowed to continue the legacy of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, by dedicating his life to service during his first televised address to the nation Friday.

Charles grew emotional recalling the legacy of his mother, whose historic reign ended Thursday when she died at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne.

"With Catherine beside him, our new prince and princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given," Charles said.
