Kodiak Robotics’ plan is to create a commercial lane to the East Coast after what it describes as a successful pilot program with U.S. Xpress along the 780-mile...

. The company also recently announced its launch of commercial operations between Dallas and Oklahoma City in February.

And it’s the first time autonomous freight deliveries have been done from Dallas to Atlanta, said Brad Carmony, vice president of brand communications at U.S. Xpress. The company employs around 8,700 people and has about 70 in Dallas in sales, maintenance and operations roles. Texas’ interstate corridors packed with freight carriers are a large part of why Kodiak continues to be a partner, Burnette said.

The new route will call for new jobs, Burnette said, from drivers to autonomy monitors and technicians. The company is in the process of doubling the size of its fleet, he said. About 40 of Kodiak’s 130 employees are in Texas.
