It took a while, but the Warriors’ postseason of experimentation is beginning to pay off.
Wednesday’s performance had me thinking back to a month ago. Dallas was a possible first-round matchup for the Warriors. That would have been a nightmare for Golden State.
While the 2022 Warriors might be a jack of many trades but a master of none, the Mavericks — as their logo would suggest — are a one-trick pony. Faced with unfamiliar looks, Dončić leaned on his instincts — he tried to take on all five Warriors defenders by himself. He scored a bit — 18 points in the first half — but he was not efficient. The Warriors baited him into a losing tendency, and in the second half, he crumbled, going 1-for-6 from the floor, scoring two points and turning the ball over six times, counter to only two assists.
Golden State didn’t win by 25 on defense alone — they were cooking on the other end of the court, too.
