Councilmember seeks funding for troubled Animal Services department
A top employee at Animal Services said he regrets comments he made to staff about striking dogs and has never harmed animals.on Tuesday to discuss conditions at animal shelters. Callers made suggestions such as hiring a third party to walk dogs and creating an advisory committee for volunteers, upon whom the city relies to help exercise animals and handle adoptions.
Both the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils, which represents 34 councils, and the Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council recently sent letters to Koretz and Mayor Eric Garcetti calling for volunteers to be reinstated. Wollman also said that the mayor’s office is “currently considering candidates” for the position of general manager of Animal Services. Annette Ramirez, the interim general manager, has been leading the department following the departure of Dana Brown, who left for another position with the city.
