Deer Park Athletic Director Darren Chandler transports another group of fans from their cars to the complex's front entrance Friday night.It took a full hour just to play the opening inning-and-a-half Friday night of Game 2 in the best-of-3 Region III quarterfinal softball series between Deer Park and Atascocita.
After Deer Park's 13-9 win Thursday night, the series boils down to Saturday night's 6:30 p.m. contest at Goose Creek Memorial High School, located at 6001 E. Wallisville Rd in Baytown. Shyanne Florence, in relief of starter Makenzie Bohannon, picked up the win. With two runs already in on bases-loaded walks from Bohannon, Florence surrendered a bloop single to right field to Aleena Carrizales, scoring two more, allowing Deer Park to erase an early 4-0 deficit.
"Just keep the ball in the yard. They can hit the ball. One swing can really change the game, just like Mary did for us. She did a great job in making them earn it. I'm just so, so proud of her," Boyd said. She faced one over the minimum over the next four innings, never allowing an Eagle into scoring position again until the fateful seventh.
