A man died and a woman was injured this weekend after their car left Highway 24 lanes, authorities said.

Around 10:25 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol officers received word of a possible crash in eastbound Hwy. 24 lanes near Oak Hill Road involving a sport-utility vehicle, the California Highway Patrol’s Cotnra Costa office said in aWhen CHP officers arrived, they found a Toyota Yaris that had left the roadway and struck a tree in the center median.

Paramedics soon arrived and took the driver and passenger to a hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately available from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division, pending next-of-kin notification. The driver was treated for life-threatening injuries, and her condition was not immediately available Sunday night.

No Sig-alert closing lanes for any investigation was issued. Anyone with information may call the CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
