Los Angeles residents who surrendered their firearms were eligible to receive gift cards of up to $300 in return, with no questions asked.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department hosted a gun buyback event in Lynwood Saturday, allowing Southland residents to surrender their firearms with no questions asked.
People were able to turn in their firearms with no questions asked, and were eligible to receive gift cards of up to $300 depending on the type of gun. For non-functioning firearms, residents received a $50 gift card; for functioning pistols, rifles and shotguns they were given a $150 gift card; a $200 gift card for functioning ghost guns and a $300 gift card for functioning assault rifles.Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn attended the event after partnering with the department in response to an increase in gun violence seen across L.A. County.
In order to avoid any sort of miscommunication, patrons were asked to bring the firearms in the trunk of their vehicle, where deputies would give further instruction.
