Houston police are at the scene of a deadly officer-involved shooting on Friday near downtown.Executive Assistant Chief Ban Tien says officers received an assault in progress call with people screaming in the background. They arrived at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Leona Street around 5:46 p.m.When officers knocked at the door of the apartment, the suspect, a Black male, opened the door and began shooting at HPD officers.Officers reportedly fired back, hitting the man.

One officer is a three-year veteran and the other officer has been with HPD for less than a year.Victim services were called to provide some resources to the woman in the apartment complex at the time.
