But what also stirs me is the treatment and conditions that the refugees face at our southern border, as they too are forced from their homes and countries because their lives are at risk. Their choices are gone. Families that struggle and endure along our border are also awaiting a chance for a better future.
I have learned that people who do not look like “a Ukrainian” are being turned away as they attempt to leave their bombed-out world. So many times I feel ashamed to be human.
