When you make the decision to serve on a municipal council or government, you are committing to community service, not a job. Your decision to enter this area of service is, yes, your commitment to serving your community the best way you can.We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

Yes, I admit that today the workload as a serving city council member is heavy, but in all reality it’s not a job that comes with sick leave benefits. You made a conscious decision to serve your community on a municipal council; you do get paid extremely well for this service, but you are not qualified for nor should you even have the nerve to ask for such sick and paid leave benefits.Article content

When you are not at your council desk, your community will not have your service. So if you cannot serve, you should not be there. I would not support this motion.
