We just received our property tax bill for 2022 and the total amount is $12,246. The tax amount for two school districts is $8,610, or 70% of the total bill. The main increase in taxes has always been in the school districts for the 30 years we have lived in this district. We do not have children and did not attend school in this area, so at no time did we attend these schools on someone else's tax dollar. But, they still want our money.
During a prior school election period, when there were contentious arguments about the school board candidates, I was informed by a few parents on social media that since my husband and I do not have school-aged children -- we are not entitled to an opinion on the candidates running for school board. But, they still want our money.
At some point in time, those of us who are retired need to be let off the hook from paying for other people's children, high teachers' salaries, etc. -- especially if these parents of the students don't want us to have any say in how the money is spent.
