Letter: 'I find it illogical and confusing that Salt Lake City keeps approving more high end/high rent/high density apartments by the dozens, which will only house a majority of urban professionals from outside Utah.'

A homeless man packs up his belongings as fencing surrounds the former site of the Sears Store in downtown Salt Lake City while demolition begins on the store on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.Salt Lake City mayor Erin Mendenhall is correct in allHer answers to the solution always include the number of 400 new housing units and tiny houses for homeless folks. A wonderful start to the issues.

Yet I find it illogical and confusing that Salt Lake City keeps approving more high end/high rent/high density apartments by the dozens, which will only house a majority of urban professionals from outside Utah. Many current residents of Utah, including the vast majority of local homeless folks, simply will not be able to afford the expensive and unregulated inevitable rent increases.

Salt Lake City alone cannot maintain enough real solutions to an exponentially growing complex local problem. There needs to be national attention to homeless Americans issues. President Joe Biden should consider appointing a homeless czar to coordinate possible solutions on the federal, state, and local levels. These could include a partnership between the public and private sectors.Like all local and state governments they are in over their heads.
