A Wheaton letter to the editor: In the Daily Herald March 26 article 'Front Lawns, Front Lines,' District 200 School Board incumbent Dave Long said: 'CRT is not taught in our schools. CRT is taught in colleges.'

In the Daily Herald March 26 article"Front Lawns, Front Lines," District 200 School Board incumbent Dave Long said:"CRT is not taught in our schools. CRT is taught in colleges."

He did not connect the two, but colleges prepare future, and also train current teachers. In fact, District 200, in developing and enacting its"Equity/Proactive Practices Work Plan," consulted with two university professors -- Dr. Tyrone Howard and Dr. Marcus Croom -- to assist with the implementation of two of the plan's tasks: training the trainers and student equity. The full plan may be found under the Facilities and Engagement tab at cusd200.org.

Both men have impressive credentials in education, race and culture, race literacy and the practice of race theory. Honest discussions and study of race and racism should be part of school curriculum -- and parents should be part of that learning process. Additional curriculum for the district to consider might be the K-12 Black History Curriculum offered by the Woodson Center. The center was founded in 1981 by Robert Woodson, an early civil rights activist who coordinated early programs for the NAACP and was a former director of the National Urban League. The website is woodsoncenter.org.
