Now we need a pandemic of morality in the Senate to complete the task. Then we might get something done about really funding education, providing some health coverage for all Texans, funding a real mental health bill, funding air conditioning for our prisons and passing a real gun-control bill that will reduce the number of semi-automatic guns on our streets.
I do hope that many more Republicans start thinking of what’s good for their constituents and not just keeping their party strong. I can think of so many good causes that can now be helped with these millions. All of this, however, did nothing to dissuade millions of Texans to vote for him. But it sure did for me.We’re entering a season of accountability. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been flouting the law he is charged with upholding since before he was elected to office. As the ethics commission found, his belief that he is above the law has become pervasive and egregious.
This headline took me back 50 years. I was a newly minted college graduate. Remembering how Richard Nixon won a second term and soon “stood firm” against Watergate accusations saying, “I am not a crook.” When will we look at the character of the person instead of the loudest voice? If we did that, maybe there would be no need for special counsels or ethics committees.Attorney General Ken Paxton was impeached by the Texas House. Shocking? No, this should have happened years ago.
