The 52-year-old female security guard was sitting at her post on the third floor of the library when a man, suddenly and with no warning, started stabbing her repeatedly with a knife while the victim screamed.
Two library patrons ran to help the woman and were able to pry the attacker off of the victim and hold him down until police were able to arrive while others tried to give the security guard CPR.
Friends and colleagues gathered in the evening of Feb. 18, 2020 outside the Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, New York, to remember the 52-year-old security guard who was murdered by a man while she sat at her post. “This is a place where people bring their children and family and they sit and they enjoy the library. This is a place where it should not be where we are going to need additional security just to protect us,” said Oney Barron, another friend of the deceased security guard.
