Hey, you guys!
A decades-old clipshows the “E.T.” filmmaker playing a massive prank on “Goonies” director Richard Donner, back in 1985.
Spielberg, of course, devised the story for the classic family movie about a group of scamps living in Astoria, Ore., who head out on a perilous adventure., after “Goonies” wrapped in ‘85, the exhausted Donner headed to Hawaii for a much needed break from work., flew the child cast of future stars out to the Aloha State to surprise their director and filmed the big reveal.
Richard Donner was shocked when his “Goonies” cast surprised him in Hawaii — courtesy of Steven Spielberg., Martha Plimpton and Jeff Cohen. The actors who played the Fratelli family — Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano — also made the trek. The plot worked. An incredulous and giggling Donner, who died in 2021 at age 91, is lounging outside and shouts, “Holy s–t!… I don’t believe it! Oh my God! What the hell are you doing here?”
An enthusiastic Cohen, who played Chunk, says “We’re gonna stay with you the whole time you’re here!”
