Of Dallas’ 22 fourth-quarter points, Irving scored 10 and Exum had eight. As has been the case through much of this 6-1 stretch, the Mavericks largely won with defense, limiting the Spurs to 43.8% shooting and rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama to 12 points and 3-of-13 shooting. In large part due to injuries, Kidd has tried 33 different starting lineups this season, but inserting Daniel Gafford and Derrick Jones Jr. two weeks ago has proved wise. That lineup, rounded out by Doncic, Irving and P.J. Washington, is 6-0.
“That group had practiced together, but just see those guys on the floor as starters has definitely put us in a better position right now.”
