COLOGNE, Germany — Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 3-point shot swished through the hoop, the third-quarter buzzer sounded andHe stayed there — separate from Slovenia’s huddle — for the entire break, towel over his face and across his torso.
Throughout the game, it appeared the toughest shots Doncic took — a playful looping toss after a whistle or difficult reverse layups through traffic — were the easiest ones to make.Doncic pulled at the neck of his jersey, shouted at himself, shook his head, shrugged his shoulders and in the fourth quarter barked at Slovenia coach Aleksander Sekulic while teammate Goran Dragic took free throws on the other end of the court.
After the game, Sekulic said Doncic hadn’t told him about an issue with his wrist and couldn’t speak to whether it bothered his shooting. Before they left Cologne on Sunday morning, the Mavericks’ contingent, including coach Jason Kidd and director of player health and performance Casey Smith, noticed Doncic iced his wrist at the end of‘I don’t think it’s that big,” Sekulic said. “It’s nothing he mentioned to me that’s bothering him, so I don’t know.”
Regardless, Slovenia’s day off Monday will be a welcome respite before another back to back to close the group stage — Tuesday against host Germany and Wednesday against France, which beat Slovenia on a buzzer-beating block in the Olympic semifinals last summer.
