The bikes will be available at any of the city’s nearly 900 Citi Bike stations for a per-minute fee, versus a flat rate for non-electric shared bikes. Named after program sponsor Citibank, the blue bikes have experienced surging demand since their debut in 2013. Last year, nearly 21 million trips were completed on about 12,000 bikes, up more than 18% from the previous year, according to city data.
