'I decided to get a cross on my C6 [vertebra] to represent the place that could've ended Makayla's life,' her sister, Myriah Noble, said in an Instagram post.
The world champion cheerleader spent several weeks in hospital. Noble then moved to a rehabilitation facility before finally being allowed to return home, although she is still undergoing various forms of therapy in efforts to regain movement.
"To those seeing this tattoo it might just be a cross on the back of my neck but to me it means so much more," she said in the post. "I was dreading seeing her because I was a complete mess and I wasn't ready to see her upset. I made myself pull it together and the moment I walked into the room I immediately felt a sense of peace," she said.
Noble said her sister's accident had taught her a lot about life. After leaving the hospital room she started to reflect and thought:"If Makayla can beMakayla Noble has made significant progress since the accident and is now able to use her arms and sit up on her own. She has also regained feeling throughout her body.
