In the stadium, at least John Isner and Gijs Brouwer were squaring off in a second-round match, although it was Isner’s first in Houston this spring because, as the fourth seed, he had received an opening-round bye. Brouwer, who is both a native Houstonian and a Dutch citizen, took the first set 6-4. They were on serve 6-5 in the second after Brouwer rallied from a love-30 deficit when the chair umpire had to call a halt to the proceedings.
