Maldivians are voting in the runoff presidential election that has turned into a virtual referendum on which regional power, India or China, will have the biggest influence in the Indian Ocean archipelago nation.

Maldives' main opposition candidate Mohamed Muiz participates in a rally as he concludes his campaign for the second round of presidential election in capital Male, Maldives, Friday, Sept.29, 2023. Maldivians return to the polls Saturday, Sept.30 to vote in a runoff election between the top two candidates in the country's presidential race after neither secured more than 50% in the first round earlier this month.

Muiz secured a surprise lead with more than 46% of votes in the first round, while Solih secured 39% votes.
