The suspect caused two minor-injury crashes before he was taken into custody, police said.
SAN JOSE – A man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a San Jose Police Department patrol vehicle and causing two minor-injury crashes Monday afternoon in San Jose, police said.
At about 2:30 p.m., officers were called to the Santa Clara Valley Regional Medical Center for a report of a fight involving an adult male patient and security, San Jose police Sgt. Christian Camarillo said. Camarillo said the man ran from the hospital, but an officer spotted him a short time later near El Rancho Verde Drive and McKee Road. The man ran from the officer and managed to get into the patrol vehicle, which was running, Camarillo said.
The man left the scene in the patrol vehicle and “caused a minor collision with a community member,” Camarillo said.The man was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered during the arrest, Camarillo said.Two officers and the other person involved in the first traffic collision also suffered minor injuries.
Camarillo said the man is facing several felony charges, including causing injuries in the collisions, stealing a patrol vehicle and resisting arrest.
