Victim Albert Barnes was well known to many police officers in Trenton and once went by 'Lil Lord.'
, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday.
Leroy McKnight, 43, is accused of killing Albert L. Barnes, 46, on Camden Street on March 15 at about 6 p.m. The prosecutor’s office did not give a suspected motive for the crime.Officers found Barnes on Camden Street with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. He lived for years on the one-block street between Passaic and West Hanover streets, a few blocks from the State House area - and was known by several police officers.
Barnes served a 10-year minimum prison term on a 20-year sentence for shooting a man in East Trenton in 2003. He was arrested for that crime on Camden Street after an officer shot him three times. Police said Barnes fired at them first, touching off a gun battle, but a jury later acquitted Barnes of the assault on officers.Thank you for relying on us to provide the local news you can trust.
