A Jefferson County jury found 35-year-old Wallderrick Pierce Carson guilty of a reduced charge of provocation manslaughter. Carson was initially charged with murder in the Feb. 27, 2021, shooting death of 30-year-old DeAndre Antone Carter.

A Center Point man has been convicted in a 2021 deadly shooting at an eastern Jefferson County store.

Under Alabama law, a person commits the crime of manslaughter if he or she causes the death of another person under circumstances that would constitute murder, except that that he or she causes the death due to a sudden heat of passion caused by provocation recognized by law, and before a reasonable time for the passion to cool and for reason to reassert itself.

Witnesses told investigators Carter and Carson argued inside the store. Carson pulled a gun and pointed it at the victim. The two then began to fight, and that’s when a shot was fired. Carson was released from jail on $50,000 on March 1, 2021. He remained on bond until his conviction Friday, at which point Davis revoked his bond and he was booked back into the Jefferson County Jail.
