The incident occurred at a 7 Eleven store near Dobson Road and 8th Avenue, according to Mesa police.
A man suspected of being in a stolen vehicle was fatally shot by Mesa police officers after they say he didn't follow commands and hit a patrol vehicle Wednesday morning.
Around 4 a.m., an employee at a 7-Eleven near Dobson Road and 8th Avenue called 911 and requested police assistance for a man who was sitting in a parked vehicle. The employee didn't know if the man was well, according to Mesa police spokesperson Richard Encinas.Officers tried to contact the man"for several minutes" using sirens and verbal announcements, but he didn't acknowledge police or follow commands to get out of the vehicle, according to Encinas.
After some time trying to get the man to comply, officers placed two patrol vehicles behind the suspected stolen vehicle. The man started the vehicle, reversed at high speed and hit the front of one of the patrol vehicles. Two officers who were beside the patrol vehicle tried to back up and shot at the suspected vehicle, according to Encinas. It is unclear if both officers fired their weapons.Detectives continued to investigate the shooting and work on identifying the man.
