One man died in an early Monday morning fire at an abandoned building on the South Side.
Firefighters arrived at the building in the 4300 block of S. Flores Street, near Division Avenue, just before 5 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the structure. According to San Antonio Fire Department Spokesman Woody Woodward, firefighters could not get inside the building because of burglar bars on the building and ended up having to fight the fire defensively from the outside as it grew.Once firefighters entered the building, they found a man dead inside. Officials said the man appeared to be wheelchair-bound and was squatting on the property.
Woodward said the building was likely used as a business in the past with a house attached to it. There were no known residents living in the house, according to the Woodward.
