Jose Rafael Solano Landaeta was the subject of a protective order when he is alleged to have killed Karina Castro, mother of his infant child, outside her apartment complex last week.
SAN CARLOS — A man under a criminal protective order involving the mother of his infant child, and who is now accused oflast week, is set to be arraigned on a murder charge in a San Mateo County courtroom Monday afternoon.
Solano was arrested Thursday afternoon, after witnesses said he initially left the crime scene on Laurel Street near Magnolia Avenue then was later spotted and detained by patrol deputies with the sheriff’s office. Just before noon that day, neighbors and witnesses alleged that Solano viciously assaulted his estranged girlfriend, Karina Castro, outside the apartment complex where she lived with her two young daughters, including the 1-year-old she shared with Solano.
According to an emergency radio traffic recording archived online, a dispatcher told responding fire and medical personnel that “this is a 25-year-old female, head was cut off by a sword.” It was unclear as of Friday whether the weapon used to kill Castro had been recovered.
