A victim of domestic violence will leave their abuser up to 12 times before leaving for the last time, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Domestic Violence often goes underreported as it most often happens behind closed doors without witnesses.
A survivor of domestic violence joined Mitchell in encouraging victims to seek help through loved ones, hotlines and shelters. “You need to know that the police and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will do everything within our power to hold your abuser accountable for what they’ve done," Mitchell said.
“Living as a victim of domestic violence felt impossible and becoming a survivor was so hard, but now I get to live, I get to thrive," a survivor of domestic violence said.
