The Marin Municipal Water District is at 93% of its storage volume, while Stafford Lake in the North Marin Water District is at 80%.
Marin County’s main water reservoirs have spilled or soon will spill — some for the first time in years — because of the series of storms in recent days, local agencies said.
“Very likely that we’ll be at full capacity, which of course is fantastic for water supply,” said district official Paul Sellier. Lake Sonoma, the larger reservoir, reached a historic low at 96,000 acre-feet at the start of December, or about 40% of capacity, prompting concerns about major cuts to imports in the event of a dry winter. An acre-foot of water is equivalent to 326,000 gallons.
