Marshall County deputy Cody Whitehead resigned following his arrest on a warrant for misdemeanor assault third. He was arrested by Guntersville police. The incident in question happened while Whitehead was off duty over the weekend.
Sheriff Phil Sims said Cody Whitehead resigned after his arrest by Guntersville police on Thursday.
In a statement, Sims said the arrest warrant was obtained for misdemeanor assault third after a complaint was filed with the sheriff’s office and Guntersville police.“We hold all employees of the sheriff’s office to a higher standard,” Sims said. “I expect my deputies to meet that standard, whether on duty or off duty. When that standard is not met, action will be taken. Law enforcement officers are to enforce the law and maintain public trust while doing so.
