A few charter members of the Great Unhinged threatened Mark Cuban on Twitter recently after news that Goran Dragic wouldn’t be bunking with Luka Doncic after...

Early into the NBA’s free agency period, it appears Dallas has patched one hole only to leave another.

Guess the honeymoon after the Western Conference Finals trip is officially over, at least until the Mavs, you know, do something.to a championship model. With Luka and a cast of tireless defenders and unconscious shooters, they didn’t need three superstars to win it all. They might not even needWhat the Mavs figured they needed after getting eliminated by the Warriors was someone who could police the parade through the paint and maybe pick up a rebound or two when traffic was light.

Frankly, I’d feel better about both acquisitions, as well as the Mavs’ chances next season, if they’d made good on their top priority, too. Forget whether the Mavs. Brunson’s new paycheck will be just mid-range for a starting point guard. Dragic undoubtedly would have been a good influence on his young superstar pal, still learning his way around the NBA and a buffet table. Best of all, the Dragon would have been a cheap sign.

Backing up a bit for perspective: Nico traded Kristaps Porzingis to Washington to break his huge contract into two movable pieces and to acquire another playmaker. Someone besides Luka and Brunson to keep the ball moving. Everyone else on the roster was and is pretty much catch-and-shoot. The lack of flow leads to stagnation. Even the return of Tim Hardaway Jr. this fall won’t change the description.
