BOISE, Idaho — — The mayor of the small town where four University of Idaho students were found dead on Sunday said the “senseless” event is a reminder that acts of violence can occur anywhere.
In a press release on Monday, Moscow Mayor Art Bettge said though only limited information could be shared without jeopardizing the police investigation, his heart and thoughts were with the victims and their families as well as the entire community. The police said anyone with information should contact the department and asked that people respect the privacy of the victims' family and friends.
The university said counselors would be available for students at the campus counseling center, while employees could access assistance through an employee assistance program. Green urged people to reach out if they were concerned about classmates or coworkers. The Moscow Police Department said the investigation was ongoing and asked people with information to call the department.
A vigil for the slain students was set for 5 p.m. Wednesday on the University's Administration lawn, University of Idaho spokesman Kyle Pfannenstiel said.
