St. Ladislas Parish in Westlake marks its 50th anniversary and welcomes its third pastor with some assistance from Westlake Mayor and parishioner Dennis Clough. Learn more about this and other community news in this week's West Shore Chatter column.

Parish in North Olmsted formed the nucleus of the new parish. The Rev. Thomas Cullen was named the first pastor.

The Rev. Don Snyder was named the second pastor in 1997. Under his guidance, a parish center was built in 1992, a parish office wing was built in 2007 and the church interior was renovated in 2004. Snyder retired in June and the Rev. Mark Latcovich was named the third pastor in July. He was installed by Cleveland Bishop Edward Malesic during a Mass on Aug. 13.

After Mass, the parish community celebrated at the annual picnic. Large tents were set up in the back parking lot and guests enjoyed a picnic lunch, live music, games and more. A table with photo albums and other historical information about the parish was displayed.
