.LeaderMcConnell-aligned PAC raises $111 million in third quarter
The Senate Leadership Fund, which is closely associated with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell , nearly doubled its total haul for this midterm cycle and has raised $221.4 million total to date, according to the New York Times. Much of the money will likely target battleground Senate races in the final weeks before the midterm elections.“Our donors are fired up about slamming the brakes on Joe Biden’s disastrous left-wing agenda,” SLF President Steven Law said in a statement.
The SLF has already spent $148 million on races in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Ohio. Contributors to the group's earnings include $20 million from the associated nonprofit group One Nation. The SLF is reportedly in talks with billionaire venture capitalist Peter Thiel about matching contributions to help Blake Masters in Arizona. According to Axios, the PAC was considering the idea but said it hadn't fundraised to match a possible donation from Thiel.Republicans are spending heavily as key Senate races are within the margin of error in polling. A cash influx from the Senate PAC could give a necessary boost in advertising as voters decide which candidates to support.
