For the foreign-trained dentist from Pakistan, the art of henna is more than just a nod to her home country or a means of financial support. It’s an all-natural rush she just can’t get enough of. Also referred to as mehndi, henna gets its name from the henna plant used to make the dye. The plant's leaves are ground into a powder and mixed to make a paste, which is then applied to the skin in patterns with a small cone like piping icing on a cake.
