. Each show had 8 to 12 artists backstage placing the nail tips that the salon’s 20 overall nail artists had created in advance.
“The nail inspiration for the show was sent by the designer a week to a few days ago as drawings, fabric photos, paintings, or show images,” Yukie tells. “From there, we create nail drawings and design chips as samples.” She explains that this exchange takes place “over and over again” until they get the perfect look to accompany the designer’s new collection.
One of Yukie’s personal favorite designs this fashion week was Laquan Smith’s “pure white coffin nails”. She says that while many of the designers asked for dark colors for the winter collections, he chose white nails to make the clothes stand out. To create the look they used white Chanel nail polish and “a coffin shape with an edge”. Another one of Yukie’s favorites to create was the four nail designs for the Christian Cowan show, each matching the design of the clothes.
