MN-S has allocated $3.5 million toward creation of the Early Learning and Child Care Community Enhancement Program, which will provide grants of up to $50,000 to Métis Locals to “enhance or develop early learning programs and services,” a news release said.

MN–S Minister of Early Learning and Child Care Tim Roussin made the announcement on Thursday at the MN–S office in downtown Saskatoon. The grants can be used to create Métis language programs, Elder programs and land-based learning for infants and children up to eight years of age. MN-S President McCallum said in a media release this kind of “by community, for community” work is important for the development of Métis children “grounded in our Métis culture, values and language.”Roussin noted that the benefits of such learning spread beyond children. It ultimately helps families, educators and communities, he said.

“Enhancing and developing programming that practices Métis culture has a positive effect on everyone. This work contributes to brighter futures and children who become strong Métis leaders in their communities.”
